Kayce was raised in Washington, DC and currently resides in Ridgewood, Queens with her many sunshine plants. An actor and theatre artist, Kayce’s professional experience with plants began with a job at a plant store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. From there she moved into the field of freelance horticulture working on installation teams for interior botanic design projects. KC and the Sunshine Plants is the next chapter of her plant journey, and she is excited to share her love and knowledge of plants with the NYC community.
Plants are in Kayce’s blood, and she comes from a long line of plant lovers. Her paternal grandmother Dr. Marian Wilson-Comer, was a master gardener and professor of botany and horticulture at Chicago State University. She remembers visiting the botanic gardens with her Grandma, and delighting in her ability to name almost any plant.
Her paternal grandfather, Joseph E. McKenzie, spent his retirement tending to his tropical garden in Florida, filled with plants from his native Jamaica. Kayce spent many summers wandering through his garden marveling at the mini pineapples that sprouted up and collecting ackee and avocados from his trees.
